I sure did enjoy the 3 day weekend. I went to Dumas, TX (in the panhandle) to visit my mom's family. My grandpa is turning 80 years old this coming weekend! 80 years old....that's a lot of living. Can you imagine all the history he's been through...all the life changing events for our country??
That brings me to this...
The past two weeks we studied the Europeans moving to the New world...or what we call today, the United States of America. The English, French, Dutch, and Spainish all wanting to come over and make their home here. Leaving their own country for a variety of reasons: religious freedom (because the government was telling them how to worship), to find gold, to find bigger pieces of land, just to find something new.
We talked about why our classmates have moved to the Whitesboro community and we discussed the reason you would move if you could move anywhere. WOW!! That was a big lesson. We discovered that yesterday, today, and tomorrow noone moves for the exact same reason.
You may answer one of the following questions or all or some...
1. What historic event do you wish you had been alive for?
2. If you had been a colonist 400 years ago, what country did you choose to be from on your poster and what colony were you encouraging people to move to? (this answer would be about your poster you designed).
3. What was your favorite part about the lesson?
