Clash of Cultures

Hope you had a great week last week for homecoming week!!

Last week in class we talked about the cultures of African American, Native American, and English. We sorted out their culture features, pasted them, and then drew pictures to represent them.

Your question to answer this week is:

1. Which culture do you think will cause the most problems and why?

Don't forget to include your name and also....if you don't answer the full question you do NOT get credit this week!!!!

Leaders of the Colony

Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, John Smith, and William Penn are all leaders of certain colonies in the New World. We thoroughly studied each to see what their reasons for coming were, their accomplishments and troubles while here, and their actions based on their beliefs. In fact, you have written a speech pretending that you are one (or a combination) of them and you are trying to invite colonists to your colony.

Questions for you:
1. Which person can you relate to most?
2. If you were to live in the colonial New world, whose colony would you go to and why?

Bonus questions:
1. What do you like most about homecoming?
2. Are you going to the game Friday night?

My answer to last week's question:
I would live in Colorado. I get such peace from being in the mountains. I love snow skiing, hiking, and sitting by the fireplace. The weather is wonderful in the summer...white water rafting is GREAT!!

Where do you live?

Last week we studied the geographic factors of the 13 colonies, which in turn is why colonists settled where they did.

Question for you....

If you could live anywhere in the world, what GEOGRAPHIC FACTOR would interest you to live there? In order to receive credit...you must answer the question: tell me where you want to live, the geographic factor(s) involved (topography, climate, natural resources, etc.), AND what those factors have to do with you wanting to live there ....the why!!!!

Don't forget to put your first name and first letter of your last name.

Maybe later in the week....I'll tell you mine :)

Moving to the New World

I sure did enjoy the 3 day weekend. I went to Dumas, TX (in the panhandle) to visit my mom's family. My grandpa is turning 80 years old this coming weekend! 80 years old....that's a lot of living. Can you imagine all the history he's been through...all the life changing events for our country??

That brings me to this...
The past two weeks we studied the Europeans moving to the New world...or what we call today, the United States of America. The English, French, Dutch, and Spainish all wanting to come over and make their home here. Leaving their own country for a variety of reasons: religious freedom (because the government was telling them how to worship), to find gold, to find bigger pieces of land, just to find something new.

We talked about why our classmates have moved to the Whitesboro community and we discussed the reason you would move if you could move anywhere. WOW!! That was a big lesson. We discovered that yesterday, today, and tomorrow noone moves for the exact same reason.

You may answer one of the following questions or all or some...

1. What historic event do you wish you had been alive for?

2. If you had been a colonist 400 years ago, what country did you choose to be from on your poster and what colony were you encouraging people to move to? (this answer would be about your poster you designed).

3. What was your favorite part about the lesson?
